Need more time? Travel light.
Getting a grip
Robyn Pearce is a time management consultant and business owner of 'Getting a grip: helping you find more time'. She's a mother of six, a successful author, a business traveller and an all round wonderful woman. I couldn't resist the opportunity to chat to her in Auckland, New Zealand.
Listen as Robyn and I discuss time management, careers, business travel and more:
Time management
For the past 25 years, Robyn's been a time-management specialist, helping clients with work-life balance, productivity, and all of the topics that come under the loose umbrella of time management.
She struck me as being very organised, but Robyn claims she was previously poor at managing her own time. It was only when a friend suggested Robyn start coaching other people, that she improved her ability to better manage her own tasks and many activities.
Since those early coaching years, Robyn has written a number of time management books, travelled for business and for pleasure - and of course supports light travel.
Light traveller
Robyn wasn't always a light traveller. It was only after lugging Lego around Europe - a little like a camel - that Robyn realised there's a better way to pack. She's now a confirmed Planepacker, carrying only the essentials for her travels.
I particularly value Robyn's parting tip:
'. . . there is something that I have learnt the hard way . . . when you go to put something in the bag just in case - you don't need it. Take it back out again.'
During our interview, Robyn shared more light travel insights and stories with me. You can download and read the full transcript - while you listen to the podcast.
Digital divas
As well as a light traveller, Robyn has embraced digital technologies like iPad for reading books, which she downloads from Libby, by Overdrive.
I was so delighted by our intercontinental conference, that I snapped us talking online (I know I should have done a screenshot, but hey, I was excited).
Robyn's generosity with her time, advice and expertise reflects and embodies everything she teaches. I'm sure we'd all benefit from her time management skills.
